Treskjerartunet Économusée

Treskjerartunet

is located in west Norway, in a valley called Myrkdalen. It's a family-business with traditions in woodcarving.

Sjur Mørkve, 1917 - 2007, started carving sculptures already as a young boy. When he was 12 years old, he carved his first goat which he gave to his mother. A result of many a summer day spent herding the goats in the hillsides. He also learnt about ornamental carving in "dragon style" from a well known woodcarver in the valley, Styrk Hirth.

In the mid 1950's Sjur started his own workshop, and since then woodcarving was his profession. Today his work is spread wide and near, and his legacy lives on through the next generation. During the years the business gradually expanded, and today there are three self-employed artists: Arne, Geir, and Bergfrid. Each has his/her own articles, which spans from big and small sculptures, nutcrackers and drinking-bowls, into graphics.

In the gallery you will find both workshop and salesroom in the same building. You can see finished articles, and at the same time you have the opportunity to see how they are made.
